Orpheus

The Lyre Bird (and the Thieving Magpie)

Orphic Mysteries are built upon the understanding that humans are both divine and immortal but are doomed to cycles of struggle and rebirth
Relics of Orpheus are held in shrines, or Oracles. An Oracle is a person or agency that has access to divine council, precognition and divination, the Oracle may be the site, the speaker or the actual spoken utterances.
The Orphic voice is one that recognises musical tonalities of rhythm and sound in language equally to that of symbolic meaning, I take it that this may also include other kinds of communication such as gesture and non verbal responses.

Orpheus is where I began, and full cycle now, BC suggested a Spectrum for the disparate elements of my studio work and the Orphic myth will lend itself to a narrative arc.
At the far end is the Oracle, the Lyre bird, an Oracle that speaks in tongues, a possible cipher, a mirror, a deflection or a reflection reflexive but also elusive.
At the other end the exposure of the dancer, cycles of struggle, ambiguities, the layering of the clockwork Orange , the dancer and the doll, an extension and a shielding, twin and blank, giver/receiver, projection and reflection.

There are those who are looking on is this a performance? Does the dancer need an audience? Are the audience also dancers caught up in the choreography of the moment?

I envisage the work on a series of screens , ranging in size and direction, projected/contained, screens made up of hurdles and high jumps, monitors are obstacles and diversions along the path.
